Front Cover Development

I had an idea of having a very obscure and random collage on my front cover to set the scene for the inside of my magazine being a little crazy!
I began with a very thick border around the box and having a head to toe image of 'Anna Dello Russo' I have placed the furry masthead to show the obscure nature of the magazine and this issue.

I started to add some random images that were to be placed around the woman

I continued this process but instantly realised I had gone way too far for a magazine cover and needed to start over.

I kept the thick border idea and chose a vibrant turquoise colour that would contrast with the headline. I also changed the cover image to one that had a better arrangement to keep the cover star as the focal point and also works well with headline that has a red fur texture to match her coat. I added a headline but it might not be legible enough for readers.

I added some more cover lines to see how the usual magazine cover features would look on my cover - however, I think it might be a little too much for my style of magazine and I would like to keep it more minimal especially with the bright colour of the border.

To be a little more quirky I changed the shape of the picture to be a wavy shape and attract more interest.

In my research I saw some typography that went vertical down the page so I tried it out and I really like the result as it keeps the focus on the image but the headline is now more interesting and interactive for the reader.

I added another cover line that is filled with the image to add some depth to the cover.

I added a white version of the masthead to add further depth and make it stand out further. However it still doesn't look right with the varying border size and may need some more work.

FINAL COVER

I made the white masthead act as a shadow - it adds depth and helps to make the red masthead stand out further. I also made the border thicker. I am happy with my cover as it is unique and I think it is quite creative to suit the tone of my magazine and my target readers. I have used a lot of influences from my research which was fun to include.
